I get to spend the lunch hour today at the boys karate class…awesome. After watching The Karate Kid as a kid I desperately wanted one of the uniforms – and to be able to do cool tricks on top of a post of course.
They are doing a great job and it is a blast to watch them learn and do their thing. If they ever figure out they can kick my tail then I’ll be in trouble. Except that I’m a dad and we fight dirty.
If your kid needs a place to karate – Mr. Nick is your man…or sensei…or whatever he gets to be called. http://www.coastalkenpo.com
Got an email from my brother in Alaska - about a recent sheep hunt in the mountains (my favorite quote: “I only had 3 or 4 times when it occured to me that I could actually die from the hunt…”) and then a moose hunt up some river. Manly men. And it hit me this morning, there are two kinds of people in the world,
Those who hunt animals for fun, and those who don’t.
It’s finally back – not that I catch a ton of games, but I definitely like knowing that it’s there for me if I want it. And tonight Amy is out with a friend, the kids are watching some, listening to odyssey some and the Bills and Pats are battling it out.
It’s a good night to sit on the couch…now if I could just get some wings and nachos…
If you know what I do and what this book is about you will probably think I’m lying – but I don’t lie and I have to say that I loved the book ‘The Divine Commodity’.
The author takes an honest look at how the American (modern is more accurate) church is affecting the spiritual depth of it’s attenders and offering a “let’s fix things from inside the system” approach of handling the problems raised. Here is the book summary is his words. {video}
It’s not large – and many of the thoughts are expanded through things the painter Van Gough painted/thought/said/wrote…all done in a way that isn’t too far out artsy but engaging.
Whether you manage a video venue and a young adult focussed ministry – like I do (which are not praised in this book) or are a person who is committed to what God is going to do in this world through His church, you should read this book. And seriously, can you find a better book cover this year?
The temp has dropped – to an incredibly comfortable 80 with only 55% humidity {wow}, it’s the weekend, and the kids are playing outside for hours…last night until dark.
